RASCAL IS CLOSING!

RASCAL IS CLOSING!

Brunswick wine bar & Bottle-o, Rascal, is set to shut its doors in the coming weeks.

Rascal, which opened just before the pandemic became a local lockdown staple due to its rotating at-home menus, vast array of interesting wines and beers, and support for local Brunswick businesses and charities. The venue has since become known for its rotating natural wines by the glass and food that champions local produce, foraging and fermenting. The venue has also collaborated with a range of local businesses to create their own soap, tea and beer, as well as hosting events with other well-regarded hospitality venues and wine brands.

The owners have been unable to come to mutual agreement with their landlord to continue trading at 341 Sydney Road, and have been unable to find a suitable new home in Brunswick.
"It is a real shame that we have gotten to this point. I feel particularly sad for the staff, many of whom have been with us from the start." says John Ryan, co-owner. "The disparity between what our landlord wants, and what the going rate is in the area is far too great. Coupled with a downturn in mid-week night-time trade on Sydney Road, we are unable to see a way forward. It feels strange closing the doors on a business that we have worked so hard on, and is still busy on weekends. We are immensely proud of what we have achieved, and the unique brand that we have created that champions Brunswick."

Rascal has been recognised as a TOP50 bar in the Good Food Guide 2021, was nominated for numerous TimeOut awards, regularly featured in media as one Melbourne's best 'northside' bars, and was featured in a global Mini Cooper campaign.

The owners will work with existing staff to ensure they are able to transition to equivalent roles within the industry. Rascal would like to take the opportunity to thank the staff, suppliers and local community for their support over the years.

The venue will trade as a restaurant until Saturday May 28th, where they will be hosting dinner and drinks until late in the evening. Resident DJ Mr Weir will be gracing the decks for one last time to see the venue off. Rascal will re-open as a clearance bottle-shop from Wednesday May 31 until mid-June, where they will be selling their range of old and new world wines and beers for clearance prices, along with glasses, cutlery and crockery.

COVID PSA

We are endeavoring to remain open and servicing our locals, despite COVID presenting significant challenges to our industry and the community.

In order to do so, and for the safety of our staff and patrons we have implemented some temporary changes, which include:

• Offering a reduced dining menu
• Requesting all patrons wear masks in the venue when not seated, social distance (where possible), and sanitize hands.

We will be regularly cleaning the venue to keep everyone as safe as possible.

Please note we may be slightly understaffed at times, and request your patience and understanding.

Thanks for your ongoing support!
